In a H.V.D.C. transmission system two or more rectifier stations supply two or more converter stations connected by two parallel transmission lines. Normally the two lines are joined by a switch (12) (Figs. 1 and 3, not shown, for single pole and double pole lines respectively). If one of a number of series converters at a station develops a fault, the faulty converter is by-passed and one converter at a station of the opposite kind (rectifying or inverting) is also by-passed. The connections to the parallel lines are rearranged so that the unaffected converters are connected by the other line working at reduced voltage.</p> |
