摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superluminescent diode (SLD) that satisfies a wide band and a high output simultaneously, and that obtains a good spectrum shape.SOLUTION: Provided is an SLD comprising: an optical waveguide formed by an active layer 101 and a pair of clad layers sandwiching the active layer therebetween; and an electrode provided in a waveguide direction of the optical waveguide. The SLD emits light guided by the optical waveguide. The active layer has at least two gain peaks. The electrode is configured by a plurality of electrodes including a first electrode 102 provided at a position closest to an emission end, and a second electrode 103 adjacent to the first electrode 102. A grating 105 that is set to reflect or absorb light having a wavelength other than wavelengths between peak wavelengths by the two gain peaks in spectrum of light generated by driving the second electrode is provided in the vicinity of the optical waveguide between the first electrode and the second electrode. The wavelength-selected light generated by driving the second electrode is guided to a region of the optical waveguide where the first electrode is provided, and then, multiplexed with light generated by driving the first electrode.
