1. A method for configuring a hazard detector having a plurality of features and a default configuration profile that specifies predetermined ones of the plurality of features as enabled or disabled, the method comprising:
providing an opportunity for a user to input a designated location for installation of the hazard detector within a residence; in response to receiving the designated location, identifying at least one feature of the plurality of features to enable or disable based upon the designated location; and in response to identifying the at least one feature, instantiating a command to enable or disable the at least one feature of the plurality of features of the hazard detector.
