1,056,215. Horizontally slidable window sashes; widow fastenings. GRETSCH-UNITAS G.m.b.H. Feb. 26, 1965 [March 18, 1964], No. 8337/65. Headings E1J and E2A. In a horizontally sliding sash window a device for locking the sash in any horizontal position comprises a lifting mechanism for the sash which includes means for positively locking the mechanism in its lifting condition in which the sash is freely slidable. The invention is also applicable to vertically sliding windows. The device comprises an operating drive shaft 4 in a lower corner of the sash which shaft is rotatable through 90 degrees by a cranked handle, not shown, the shaft being coupled eccentrically by a pin 8 and a link 11 to one end of a lifting link 13 pivotally mounted on the trolley 10 which runs on a guide rail by rollers so that by turning the handle and shaft 4 clockwise the pin 8 moves to the right and the pin 9 also carried by the shaft 4 disengages from the slot 15 in the connecting link 11 and allows the link 11 to rotate anticlockwise about its pivot 12 on the link 13, pivoted at 14 in the casing 2, to rotate the lifting link 13 and drop the trolley. The pin 9 may also operate in a slot 15 in a locking plate 20 movable vertically and co-operating with a slot in the main frame in the end position of the sash to lock the sash in this end position and the plate and slot may have co-operating sloping edges 18' to press the sash against the frame with the interposition, if desired of a resilient strip. In a modification the connecting link 11 is connected to the trolley 10 directly and locked in the operative position by a cam on the drive shaft 4, engaging a cam on the link, or by a pin and slot arrangement.
