Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for determining an intra prediction mode of an image coding unit. Candidate intra prediction modes of color difference blocks including an intra prediction mode of a brightness block are determined, and the color difference block having the minimum cost is determined by comparing costs of the color difference blocks according to the candidate intra prediction modes.
