PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device capable of calculating a fuel consumption decrement or a fuel consumption increment per unit electric power for every travel mode.SOLUTION: A control unit 20 calculates engine efficiency &eegr;solely of an engine 11 on the basis of engine power Pthat is driving power output from the engine 11 and an ideal fuel consumption line. The control unit 20 also calculates MG-INV efficiency &eegr;that is total efficiency of a motor generator 12 and an inverter 14 on the basis of MG power Pthat is driving power output from the motor generator 12. The control unit 20 calculates a fuel consumption decrement &Dgr;FCor a fuel consumption increment &Dgr;FCper unit electric power for every travel mode on the basis of the engine efficiency &eegr;and the MG-INV efficiency &eegr;. It is thereby possible to appropriately calculate the fuel consumption decrement &Dgr;FCor the fuel consumption increment &Dgr;FCper unit electric power on the basis of the power.
