The invention relates to a method for decomposing a frame of three-dimensional coordinates y into a sum of trivariate atoms phi k weighted by a coefficientϰk , a rotation matrix R k being applied to said weighted atoms. The method comprises the following iteratively applied steps: a 3D registration (303) of the set of three-dimensional atoms obtained from a non-oriented dictionary psi, the registration being carried out using the technique of decomposition into singular values in order to obtain a coefficientϰk and a rotation matrix R k for each atom; a selection (305) of at least one atom, its associated coefficientϰk and its associated matrix R k so as to obtain a parsimonious decomposition of the frame of three-dimensional coordinates; and a calculation (306) of the remainder of the decomposition having taking into account the last selected atom, said remainder being used by the 3D registration step of the following iteration.
