PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for efficiently and easily obtaining an alkali-soluble resin that has structural units derived from a tertiary carbon-containing (meth)acrylate monomer and from an acid group-containing monomer and that is transparent and has a desired acid value, and a resist composition containing an alkali-soluble resin obtained by the production method.SOLUTION: The production method of an alkali-soluble resin includes a step of polymerizing a monomer component comprising a tertiary carbon-containing (meth)acrylate monomer and an acid group-containing monomer in the presence of an alcohol solvent, in which the use amount of the alcohol solvent is 10 to 80 mass% with respect to total 100 mass% of a polymerization solution. |
