The present invention provides a polyester production method that comprises the following: a step for producing an oligomer, containing a dicarboxylic acid diester, by esterification or ester exchange reaction of a dicarboxylic acid or ester-forming derivative thereof and a glycol; and a step for then subjecting the oligomer to melt polycondensation and obtaining a polyester as the melt polycondensation product. The polyester production method is characterized in that, from between the two steps, at least in the step for melt polycondensation of the oligomer, the oligomer is subjected to melt polycondensation in the presence of titanium nitride and, as a polycondensation catalyst, solid base granules having a surface coating layer of titanic acid, and a polyester is obtained as the melt polycondensation product. |
