<p>A method for actuating continuously variable engine valve lift; a valve lift actuator is connected in parallel in the hydraulic circuit between the cam cylinder and the valve cylinder of the variable valve mechanism of a hydraulic variable cam follower; the valve lift actuator (7) comprises a valve lift actuator cylinder (8), a valve lift actuator piston (9), a piston return device (10), and a retaining device (11); by means of the return force exerted by the piston return device (10), the piston maintains a tendency to move in the direction of the zero position; the retaining device (11) controls the stroke of the valve lift actuator piston between the zero position and the retaining device, and controls the volume of fuel flowing into the valve lift actuator, thus controlling the amount of fuel flowing into the valve cylinder and achieving continuously variable control of valve lift; also provided is an actuating device for continuously variable engine valve lift. The present method and apparatus improve the engine fuel economy under various operating conditions, and improve engine power and emissions reduction.</p> |
