[Also in Group XXII] A scrap packaging press comprises a press box 10 having a hinged cover 16 (omitted in Fig. 1), a charging trough 21, a press plunger 14, and a wall having a part-cylindrical surface 33 which co-operates with the free edge of the cover 16. The side wall 24 of the trough 21 is in a plane which lies within the arc formed by the surface 33. Scrap is loaded into the trough 21 by a magnetic crane and pushed by a plunger 25 into the press box 10 while the cover 16 is open. The cover 16, lowered hydraulically by means linked to a pivot 20, compresses the scrap and coacts with a cutting edge 30 as it closes. The plunger 14, also hydraulic, completes the compression after which a door 15 is opened, the plunger also ejecting the scrap. |
