PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for producing trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (HFO-1234ze).SOLUTION: In the production method, the trans-HFO-1234ze is formed by: (a) contacting 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa) with caustic solution and dehydrofluorizing the same to convert into a reaction product comprising cis-HFO-1234ze and trans-HFO-1234ze; and (b) contacting at least a portion, preferably a substantial portion, and in a certain aspect substantially all of the reaction product with an isomerization catalyst (selected from fluorinated Cr2O3, AlF3, and a combination thereof) to convert at least a portion, preferably at least a substantial portion of cis-HFO-1234ze in the reaction product into trans-HFO-1234ze. |
