EFFICIENT GROUP ID MANAGEMENT FOR WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORKS (WLANS)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide techniques and apparatus for efficiently managing overloaded group IDs for groups of stations (STAs) receiving simultaneous transmission in a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) scheme.SOLUTION: Overloading for some of the groups allows flexibility at an access point (AP) for tradeoff between more STA combinations and power savings. The group ID management scheme is flexible enough to support APs with both overloaded and non-overloaded groups and APs with only non-overloaded groups. This scheme also achieves these benefits for overloading with a low overhead.
