[Also in Division F2] The level of lubricating oil for the taper roller bearings 13, 14 of a wheel hub 20 is visible through a transparent portion 35 of a hub cap 15. The hub is mounted, by the bearings, on an axle shaft 11, and, with the cap 15, and an oil-seal 44, forms a compartment for oil, which may be inserted through a hole closed by a filler plug 37 containing a breather hole 38. The body of the cap 32 is of high-impact plastics material, and is held to the hub by screws through a flange 34 containing an annular seal 43. The transparent disc 35, of acrylic resin material, is moulded or cemented to the body 32, and has moulded therein a marker ring 46 indicating a desired level of oil in the compartment.
