A heater for heating a fluid / media comprises a heat source tube 3 passing through a vessel 2 and at least partially immersed in a heat transfer fluid. The heat source tube is supplied with heated gas communicated through the heat source tube to evaporate the heat transfer fluid. At least one heat exchanger (condenser) 13 is in fluid communication with the heat transfer fluid whereby the fluid / media to be heated is communicated through the heat exchanger and is heated by the evaporated heat transfer fluid. The fluid / media may communicate through a heat transfer tube 5 located inside the heat exchanger. A feed 12 and return tube 14 communicates the heat transfer fluid between the evaporator vessel and condensing heat exchanger in a closed loop two phase thermosyphon. The heat exchanger may be higher than the evaporator vessel. The heat transfer fluid maybe water comprising a propylene or ethylene glycol. The heat source tube maybe curved and follows a sinuos path inside the evaporator vessel (fig 8). The heated gas maybe exhaust gas from a burner 6 forced through the heat source tube by a fan or pump. The heated fluid may be natural gas. |
