<p>#CMT# #/CMT# The sensor (2) has a transmission-reception antenna system (4) transmitting radio electric wave and receiving the wave reflected by a surface of an aircraft. The antenna system has a transmission module (10) to transmit the electric wave according to transmission directions, where each direction is defined by an associated angular value provided by an angular sector based on frequency deviation. The angular value is associated with transmission frequency. A digital processing module (16) provides a set of distance information, where each information corresponds to transmission direction. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for obtaining distance information with respect to a surface of an aircraft equipped with a radio electric sensor. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Radio electric sensor for providing information relative to distance e.g. height, of an aircraft e.g. civil or military aircraft, with respect to a surface i.e. overflown surface, during automatic flight phase or critical flight phases of flight such as approach, landing and take-off phase. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The sensor deduces height of an aircraft in a reliable manner and utilizes a fixed antenna without active components, so that the sensor is inexpensive.
