[Also in Division C7] An electric switch contact such as is used in a sealed magnetic reed contact unit has at least two surface layers, the outer layer being of metal-and from 0À1 to 5 Ám. (10<SP>-6</SP> meter) thick and an inner layer including, at least 1% by volume of a non-metal. The inner layer may be from 0À001 to 1 Ám. thick andconsist of carbon or graphite or phosphorous or sulphur or silicon or a metal oxide and the outer layer may be ruthenium or rhodium. Alternatively the inner layer may be at least 0À1 Ám thick and consist of a finely divided non-metal in a metal such as gold having a melting point of less than 1500‹ C. The inner layer may be coated on a further inner layer of ruthenium which may be coated on further layers of carbon and ruthenium. |
