发明名称 Improvements in or relating to machines for perforating statistical cards
摘要 560,834. Punching statistical cards. REMINGTON RAND, INC. Oct. 16, 1942, No. 14542. Convention date, Oct. 17, 1941. [Class 31 (ii)] A machine for perforating statistical cards having upper and lower perforation zones, as described in Specification 513,191 including punches associated with each zone, and set-bars 19 operated electromagnetically from keys 12 for selecting and setting said set bars, means 20 for locking the set-bars in active position, and means including control keys for disabling the locking means 20 to release the bars 19 after a punching cycle has been completed is constructed with manually settable means to disable the set-bar locking means associated with only the upper zone set bars, or with only the lower zone set bars upon actuation of a given control key, and also manually settable to disable the set bar locking means of both zones concomitantly at the will of the operator. In a machine of the general construction set forth in the above Specification in which a carriage 17 is operated to perform a punching cycle under control of a one-revolution clutch 9 operated by an electromagnet 6 so that the cards' are fed and punched by punches associated with the set bars 19, the set bars are .arranged to be disabled by-means of rollers 24, or 27 which coact respectively with interponent members 25, 28 to release the set bars corresponding to the lower and upper zones of set bars respectively. The rollers 25, 28 are lowered into operative position by lever and Bowden wire mechanism controlled by electromagnets 42, 41 which are arranged in an electrical circuit shown in Fig. 4 permitting the electromagnets 41, 42 to be operated simultaneously, or individually. The control currents are produced by a generator 1 connected to a positive line 49 and a negative line 53, and the circuits to the magnets 41, 42 are controlled by a key 52 or cancel key, trip key 50, and intermediate trip key 51. The circuit to the cancel key 52 passes through a timer switch T which is a drum commutator, and when the key 52 is depressed it causes energization of a magnet 59 with consequent energization of ring magnet 5 to cause a return movement of the carriage 17. Also a relay 57 is energized causing energization of both magnets 41, 42 so that the set bars of both zones are released by the return of the carriage which may be held by engagement of a lug 69 controlled by a solenoid 96 with a margin stop 67, or an intermediate stop 68 on a shift bar 66 which restores to normal position a bell-crank 63 which is actuated when the magnet 59 is energized and closes contacts 71 causing energization of the ring magnet 5. Operation of the trip key 50 causes operation of the trip magnet 6 which actuates the clutch 9 with consequent punching cycle return of the carriage 17 to the margin stop, and also energization of both magnets 41, 42 and clearing of both set bar zones. The circuits to the magnets are controlled by energization of the retract magnet 57 which occurs under control of the timer switch T after energization of a trip relay 113. To set the circuits so that only one set of bars 19 may be disabled a reversing switch 78 is provided which can be set to cause energization of either or both magnets 41, 42. Current is supplied to both contacts 77, 81 of this switch 78 when a switch 91 is closed and the trip key 50 actuated, and then closure of a double blade switch 83, 84 causes both magnets to be operated. If, however, switch 91 is opened and current to contact 81 cut off, then switch 78 can be adjusted to energize only one of the magnets. Also the switch can be set to energize only one of the magnets when the key 51 is depressed, as this also cuts off the supply of current to the contact 81 of the switch 78.
