PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology with which the light emission luminance of light sources can be controlled to appropriate values when a graphics image is displayed while overlapped on the original image.SOLUTION: A display device of the present invention includes: light emitting means having a plurality of light sources, the light emission luminance of which can be individually changed; display means for displaying an image on a screen through the modulation of light from the light emitting means; and control means for controlling the light emission luminance of the light sources according to the brightness of images to be displayed in areas on the screen corresponding to the plurality of respective light sources. When a graphics image is displayed while overlapped on the original image, the control means changes the light emission luminance of the light sources according to the type of the graphics image to be overlapped.
