摘要 <p>#CMT# #/CMT# The stud (40) has a prepared end face (46) for welding to the workpiece (20). This end face (46) includes a small central projection (48). The projection is brought into contact with the welding surface of the workpiece. An electrical pilot current (I p) is switched on. The stud is lifted from the welding surface, drawing the arc. The arc current (I w) is adjusted such that the welding surface and the end face melt. The stud is lowered onto the welding surface, so mixing the two melted surfaces together. The current is switched off, permitting all of the molten metal to set, so forming a material bond between the stud and the workpiece. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are included for the stud and the method of making it. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# A method of welding studs rapidly to sheet metal using the drawn-arc process. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# This method allows both steel studs to be welded to steel sheet, and aluminum studs to aluminum sheet. Surfaces to be welded are cleaned efficiently using this method. Comparatively large tolerance is applicable to the dimensions of the projection, yet accurate and reproducible arc ignition is achieved.
