<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents the generation of faulty transfer or faulty cleaning caused by the excessive or insufficient application amount of lubricant even with the change in the type of used paper sheets. <P>SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus provided with an intermediate transfer belt 10, a cleaning device 17 is disposed on the downstream side of the intermediate transfer belt 10 relative to a secondary transfer device 22, and, after a toner image is secondarily transferred to a paper sheet, a toner remaining on the intermediate transfer belt 10 is removed by a first brush roller 102 and a first cleaning blade 103. Thereafter, a second brush roller 104 as a lubricant application member scrapes a lubricant 107 brought into pressurized contact with itself by a pressing spring 108, and applies it onto the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 10.
