Abstract The present invention relates to a method for the measurement of resistances of switching contacts (56 and 57) arranged in a series connection of an electrical circuit 5 breaker (51). The method includes the steps of feeding a first measurement current (Is1) in a first direction through a first switching contact of the switching contacts (56 and 57) arranged in the series connection; feeding a second measurement current (Is2) in a second direction through a second switching contact of the switching contacts (56 and 57) arranged in the series connection, the first direction and the O second direction being opposite to one another with respect to the series connection of the switching contacts (56 and 57), and the first measurement current (Is1) and the second measurement current (Is2) being fed while the series connection is grounded at both sides; and determining a resistance value of the first switching contact on the basis of the first measurement current (Is1) while the first switching contact and the 5 second switching contact are closed.
