A zoom lens system is provided with: a first lens group having positive power; a second lens group having negative power; a third lens group having positive power; a fourth lens group; and a fifth lens group. During zooming, at least the first lens group, second lens group, and third lens group move along the optical axis so as to widen a gap between the first lens group and the second lens group at the telephoto end such that this gap is wider than the same at the wide angle end and so as to narrow the gap between the second lens group and the third lens group at the telephoto end such that this gap is narrower than the same at the wide angle end. A limiting aperture is disposed between the second lens group and the third lens group. The following conditions are satisfied: 18.5 < fG1/fW < 30.0 (fG1 being the focal length of the first lens group and fW being the focal length of the entire system at the wide angle end). |
