PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a magnetic recording medium capable of producing the magnetic recording medium having the electromagnetic conversion characteristics better than those of the conventional magnetic recording medium of a vapor deposition type. SOLUTION: This process for producing the magnetic recording medium includes a magnetic layer forming stage for forming a magnetic layer on a base 2 by executing vapor deposition of metal on the surface of the base 2 by a diagonal vapor deposition method using a magnetic layer deposition apparatus 1 constituted by arranging a can roll 40 within a vacuum chamber 10. The vapor deposition described above is executed in such a manner that the ratio of the metal vapor densityρh at the max. incident angle end and the metal vapor densityρ1 at the min. incident angle end on the can roll 40 attains 1.0>=ρh/ρ1>=0.3.
