<p>The present invention relates to a PTC heater in an air conditioner for a vehicle and a control method thereof, and is to prevent a battery and various electric units from being damaged by ripple current and to precisely control temperature in the interior of the vehicle at the same time by linearly controlling the heating value of the PTC heater and minimizing the generation of the ripple current. According to the present invention for effects above, the PTC heater in an air conditioner for a vehicle comprises: multiple heating rods; and multiple IGBT elements corresponding to the respective heating rods and respectively controlling the heating values of the corresponding heating rods. The PTC heater further includes a switching control part which controls the heating values of the corresponding heating rods by controlling the IGBT elements according to inputted certain target temperature, wherein the switching control part performs a PWM switching control on one of the IGBT elements in order to linearly control the heating value of the corresponding heating rod, and performs ON/OFF switching controls on the rest of the IGBT elements in order to control the heating values of the corresponding heating rods by a step control method.
