1. An image reading apparatus having a first power state and a second power state where power consumption is less than in the first power state, the image reading apparatus comprising:
a document cover configured to be opened and closed to place a document on a document platen; a determination unit configured to, based on opening and closing of the document cover, determine a size of the document placed on the document platen; a power control unit configured to cause the image reading apparatus to transition from the second power state to the first power state; and a notification unit configured to, if the determination unit has not determined the size of the document placed on the document platen after the power control unit has caused the image reading apparatus to transition from the second power state to the first power state, prompt opening and closing of the document cover.
