This fuel cell system generates power according to a load and supplies anode gas and cathode gas to a fuel cell. The fuel cell system includes a cathode-gas control unit for controlling the pressure of the cathode gas on the basis of the load, and an anode-gas control unit for causing the pressure of the anode gas to pulsate on the basis of a pulse width determined on the basis of the state of operation of the fuel cell and the pressure of the cathode gas. The fuel cell system also includes an anode-gas-partial-pressure-retention control unit for increasing the pressure of the anode gas according to the state of impurities inside the fuel cell. The cathode-gas control unit increases the pressure of the cathode gas when there is a large pressure difference between the anode-gas pressure and the cathode-gas pressure, in comparison to when the pressure difference is small. |
