563,980. Electrically heated kilns. BRITISH BROWN-BOVERI, Ltd., and OSWALD, H. April 6, 1943, No. 5493. [Class 39 (iii)] A truck a for carrying articles to be heated in a tunnel kiln b has a refractory deck c above which is mounted a heater assembly d and below which is mounted controlling switch gear e and current collectors f, f taking current from stationary conductors g, h. Conductors g are continuous and carry the heating current, and conductors hare discontinuous at and carry the controlling current to the switch gear. The latter comprises electrically operated contactors k controlling sections of the heaters, connected to a controller q. The latter comprises a pyrometer r connected to a temperature indicator t having a link u co-operating with contacts x, y whereby one phase may be rendered inoperative, or power entirely disconnected. An auto-transformer, Fig. 2, may be inserted at 3, whereby, without breaking the continuity of the conductors g, the applied voltage on a section of the kiln may be reduced. Separate trucks may be used for the electrical equipment and the articles to be heated, or trucks may carry both, and the heaters may be arranged as in Specification 563,979. Specification 486,465 also is referred to.
|
