PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retainer which is reduced in a load to act thereon due to the proceeding or delaying of a rolling element. ! SOLUTION: A retainer 5 for a roller bearing comprises: an annular part; and a plurality of pillar sections made separate from the annular part and spaced circumferentially along said annular part. Between the circumferentially adjacent pillar sections, there are formed pockets 7 for holding rolling elements 4. The annular part has holding grooves 23 formed to retain the individual pillar sections made movable along the circumferential direction but unable to leave the annular part. !
