372,215. Beacon lights. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., Holophane House, Elverton Street, Vincent Square, London.-(Soc. Anon. Francaise Holophane ; 156, Boulevard Haussmann, Paris.) Sept. 28, 1931, No. 27012. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] In a beacon light for aerial navigation the source of light is surrounded by a prismatic glass envelope which is divided circumferentially into sectors, some of which are adapted to reflect or refract light downwardly to indicate the route or landing ground, whilst the others are adapted to refract light upwardly to provide an indication for aircraft. In the form shown, the envelope comprises inner and outer circular members 1, 2 assembled together by means of screwed mounts 4, 5, the outer surface of the member 1 having sectors which are silvered as at 6 and others which are provided with horizontal refracting prisms 7 adapted to co-operate with vertical prisms or flutes 9 on the inner surface of the member 2, the top of which is provided with horizontal prisms 8. The member 2 rests on a flange 11 on the member 1 only at the sectors provided with the prisms 7, 9, the latter being protected from dust by means of rubber blocks between the sectors, and the silvering being cooled by air which enters and leaves the space 3 between the members 1, 2 by means of inlets 12 and outlets 13. The silvering may be omitted from the uppermost parts of the member 1, and it may be completely replaced by totally reflecting prisms. The outer member 1 may be coloured, and the two members 1, 2 may be replaced by a single-piece envelope.
