The present specification relates to a method and apparatus for setting a profile. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for setting a profile comprises the steps of: receiving a profile movement request for requesting movement of at least a portion of a first profile from a first security module to a second security module; transmitting a request message for requesting the portion of the first profile to the first security module; receiving the portion of the first profile from the first security module; configuring a second profile using at least a portion of the received first profile; transmitting the second profile to the second security module; transmitting, to an authentication centre (AuC), a message for requesting the update of a security value corresponding to the second profile, when the second profile is installed in the second security module; transmitting a message for requesting the deletion of the first profile if the AuC updates the security value corresponding to the second profile; transmitting a message for requesting the deletion of the second profile if the AuC has failed to update the security value corresponding to the second profile; and transmitting a message for requesting the restoration of K into a value before update if the AuC has failed to update the security value corresponding to the second profile.
