PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To widen a frequency band of a thin film magnetic element.SOLUTION: A thin film magnetic element comprises: a magnetoresistance effect film including a magnetization fixed layer and a magnetization free layer via a nonmagnetic spacer layer; paired electrodes disposed in a lamination direction of the magnetoresistance effect film via the magnetoresistance effect film; paired soft magnetic layers which are disposed while being separated from the magnetoresistance effect film and respectively facing the magnetoresistance effect film interposed therebetween parallel to a lamination surface of the magnetoresistance effect film; a second soft magnetic layer which is separated from the magnetoresistance effect film more than the first soft magnetic layers and disposed while partially facing the first soft magnetic layers in the lamination direction; and a coil which is formed while being wound around the second soft magnetic layer. When a rear end region sectional area of the first soft magnetic layer is denoted by S1r and a front end region sectional area of the second soft magnetic layer is denoted by S2f, S2f>S1r is satisfied and when a front end width of the first soft magnetic layer is denoted by W1f and a rear end width of the first soft magnetic layer is denoted by W1f, W1r>W1f is satisfied. |
