WATER DENITRIFICATION

The described implementations relate to water denitrification. One method obtains nitrate levels in influent and effluent of a moving bed media filter and determines carbon levels in the effluent. The method also doses carbon feedstock into the influent based on both the nitrate levels and the carbon levels.

1. A system, comprising:
a media filter configured to facilitate conversion of nitrogen from a first form that is less likely to outgas from water to a second form that is more likely to outgas from the water; a dosing mechanism configured to dose a carbon feedstock into influent water of the media filter to promote the conversion; a first sensor configured to detect a level of carbon in effluent water from the media filter; a second sensor configured to detect a level of nitrogen in effluent water from the media filter; and a controller configured to control the dosing mechanism based upon levels of carbon and nitrogen in effluent water from the media filter, wherein the controller is further configured to reduce a carbon feedstock dosing rate in response to increasing levels of carbon and nitrogen.
