<p>The present invention provides a nematic liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric anisotropy with an absolute value from 2 to 8 at 25° C., the composition containing at least one liquid crystal compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy with an absolute value of 4 or more and at least one antioxidant, wherein the amount of the liquid crystal compound is not less than 3%; the present invention also provides a liquid crystal display device using such a liquid crystal composition. The present invention can give a liquid crystal composition having a negativeΔ∈, a liquid crystal phase in a wide temperature range, a small viscosity, a good solubility at low temperature, a high specific resistance and voltage holding ratio, and a stability to heat and light; hence, use of this liquid crystal composition enables a highly responsive liquid crystal display device, such as a VA type and a PSVA type, which has an excellent display quality with a reduction in defective display such as droplet stains and linear afterimages.</p> |
