摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting rotary machine in which a rotor or a stator that uses superconducting material is stably cooled and which has therefore high efficiency and high performance, and a method of cooling the superconducting rotary machine.SOLUTION: The superconducting rotary machine includes a superconducting stator 1, a rotor 5, and a refrigerant 4. The superconduction stator 1 is composed of a tubular stator core 11 having a slot 12 extending between both end surfaces of the tubular stator core, and a superconducting coil 2 which is housed in the slot 12 and is formed by winding a superconducting wire . The rotor 5 includes a rotating shaft 51 arranged coaxially with a central shaft of the superconduction stator 1. The superconduction stator 1 and the rotor 5 are both arranged in a common refrigerant 4. Between a peripheral surface which forms the slot 12 and the superconducting coil 2, a stator side gap 12s is provided which penetrates between both end surfaces of the stator core 11. The rotor 5 includes a plurality of through holes 65 and/or grooves not parallel to the rotating shaft 51 penetrating both end surfaces 6a, 6b.
