[Class 83 (i)] In casting electrode plates, particularly for electric accumulators, the lead or other material flows by gravity into a stationary mould, and the relative durations of the individual steps of the casting process may be varied. A control valve A supplied with compressed air at d has connections to a series of cylinders c<1>-c<6> and is rotated step by step by a control disc B driven by a motor C. The control disc has a number of adjustable stops e which move the valve to successive positions for effecting the following series of operations : (1) admission to cylinder c<1> to raise the hinged side D of the mould E, (2) admission to cylinder c<2> to lock the mould ready for casting, (3) admission to cylinder c<3> to allow molten metal to flow into the mould under gravity, (4) admission to cylinders c<1> and c<2> to unlock and open the mould, (5) admission to cylinders c<4> and c<5> to push forward ejecting members F and at the same time to swivel a supporting arm H so that projections on the arm for lifting the plate G out of the mould enter cavities formed in the plate, (6) admission to cylinder c<6> to move a rake J downwards between the plate and mould part K, (7) admission to cylinder c<4> to withdraw the member F, the rake J preventing the plate from. being moved with the member F, (8) admission to cylinders c<5> and c<6> to swing back the arm H with the plate G and also to raise the rake J. The operations may then be repeated in the above sequence. The motor C may be regulated by a resistance L to vary the times of all the steps proportionately, the relative times of the steps being determined by the setting of the stops e. |
