A device (D) dedicated to dimensioning an electrical cable (CE1) that interconnects electrical components (O0, O1) via electrical protection means (F1), comprises calculation means (MC) that determine, for said electrical cable (CE1), a minimum diameter for which the internal temperature of same is stabilised below a critical destruction temperature or for which the electrical protection means (F1) cut off the interconnection before the internal temperature of same reaches the critical temperature. These calculation means (MC) i) break down the electrical cable (CE1) into elementary cells chosen from a central cell representing a conductive core, at least one intermediate cell representing an insulating layer surrounding the conductive core or another insulating layer, and an outer cell representing the surrounding environment, ii) represent each elementary cell of the breakdown as a set of nodes associated with elementary matrices representative of variables of a common equation that represents the thermal transfers of the nodes of same, iii) construct, for each variable of the common equation, an overall matrix from the corresponding elementary matrices associated with the sets of nodes, and iv) determine the internal temperature by digitally solving the common equation placed in matrix form with the global matrices.
|
