An Oscillating Water Column (OWC) wave energy converter 10 has a plurality of columns 20a-d which are in fluid communication with ocean waves via ports 50a-d. The ports 50 are arranged substantially in series along the wave propagation direction 40, and the ports 50 are of progressively greater depth. This causes the ocean waves to propagate in a downwardly-directed manner 45 when received at the ports 50. The columns 20 are arranged with their elongate axes substantially aligned along a first direction, and the ports 50 have port angles relative to the first direction which are progressively larger as the ports 50 are of progressively greater depth. Alternatively, the angles are progressively smaller as the ports 50 are of progressively greater depth (figure 3b). |
