The present invention relates to a stereo image matching apparatus and a stereo image matching method. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the provided stereo image matching apparatus includes: a parallax calculating block which calculates a parallax by matching a left image with a right image obtained from a stereo camera and detects an area (occlusion area) where the parallax is hidden; a codebook storing block which stores a codebook in which each code word is recorded about information including color, brightness, and depth in a previous frame; and a code word renewing block which generates each code word about information including color, brightness, and depth in a current frame and renews code words in the current frame by using the codebook in the occlusion area which is detected in the parallax calculating block. The stereo image matching method is also proposed.
