A method of configuring an integrated circuit device with a user logic design includes analyzing the user logic design to identify timing requirements of paths within the user logic design, determining latency requirements along those paths, routing the user logic design based on availability of storage elements for incorporation into those paths to satisfy the latency requirements, and retiming the user logic design following that routing by incorporating at least some of the storage elements.

1. A method of configuring an integrated circuit device with a user logic design, said method comprising:
analyzing said user logic design to identify timing requirements of parallel paths within said user logic design; determining latency requirements along said parallel paths; routing said user logic design based on availability of storage elements for incorporation into said parallel paths to satisfy said latency requirements; retiming said user logic design following said routing by incorporating at least some of said storage elements into said parallel paths; generating a configuration bitstream based on said analyzing, said determining, said routing and said retiming; and storing said configuration bitstream in configuration memory of said programmable integrated circuit device.
