PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which is less susceptible to light leakage caused by a cross dichroic prism.SOLUTION: A projector of the present invention includes; an illumination unit; a plurality of optical modulators; a cross dichroic prism 554 which combines colored rays modulated by the optical modulators; a plurality of substrates 11, 12, 13, each being located between each optical modulator 55B, 55G and a respective light incident end surface of the cross dichroic prism 554; and a projection optical system. The substrates are positioned such that; a surface of the first substrate 11 facing the cross dichroic prism 554 faces an end surface of the second substrate 12; or a surface of the second substrate 12 facing the cross dichroic prism 554 faces an end surface of the first substrate 11; or an end surface of the first substrate 11 faces an end surface of the second substrate 12. |
