PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of white smoke resulting from sulfur desorption at the regeneration of PMs.SOLUTION: A control device of an internal combustion engine having a filter at a downstream side of a catalyst having an oxidization function comprises a control part which sets an exhaustion temperature to a temperature lower than a PM oxidation start temperature when a PM regeneration requirement of the filter is satisfied, and sets the exhaustion temperature to a temperature not lower than the PM oxidation temperature after maintaining the exhaustion temperature at a sulfur desorption temperature higher than the highest arrival temperature of an exhaust gas after the completion of the previous regeneration of the PMs up to the present PM regeneration requirement, or a floor temperature of the catalyst for a constant period. By this constitution, the abrupt desorption of sulfur is avoided, and the generation of white smoke can be suppressed. |
