[Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group III] The synthesis of hydrocarbons from carbon monoxide and hydrogen is effected using a cobalt catalyst prepared by slowly precipitating a reducible cobalt compound during a period of at least 3 hours and preferably 12 or more hours. The precipitating agent is added to the cobalt solution drop by drop with stirring, and preferably at room temperature. The precipitate is dried, pressed and reduced. The catalyst may also contain iron and nickel, activating oxides, and carriers. |
