PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unnecessary rotation of a contact/separation member, to prevent a separation failure between transfer means and an image carrier.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 11 which rotates a rotation shaft 34a or is rotated thereby to carry a visible image; a nip forming member 36 which comes into contact with the image carrier to form a transfer nip; and a contact/separation member 110 which is arranged on the rotation shaft and rotates to bring the image carrier and the nip forming member into contact with each other or to separate them from each other. Regulation means 200 is provided for regulating rotation of the contact/separation means 110 when the nip forming member 36 is separated from the image carrier 11 due to the rotation of the contact/separation member 110. |
