PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize preferred lane change control even when an ambient situation cannot be fully recognized because of presence of an obstacle.SOLUTION: A lane change assist system (10) includes obstacle detection means (101) that detects an obstacle present in the perimeter of a vehicle (310), white line detection means (102) that detects a white line of a lane, request detection area calculation means (103) that calculates a request detection area (&thetas;), which is requested when lane change control is implemented, on the basis of the detected white line, shielding decision means (104) that decides whether a detection area of the obstacle detection means is smaller than the request detection area, control quantity calculation means (105) that if the detection area of the obstacle detection means is smaller than the request detection area, calculates a control quantity (W,D) of a vehicle which is required to make the detection area of the obstacle detection means equal to or larger than the request detection area, and vehicle control means (106) that controls the vehicle on the basis of the calculated control quantity. |
