The present invention relates to a culture medium composition of microalgae for producing highly unsaturated fatty acid, wherein the culture medium includes glutamate and ammonium sulfate as a nitrogen source and a pH adjuster. According to the present invention, the pH adjustment of the culture medium by means of a separated additive is not needed so that dangers which are caused by the artificial adjustment of the pH can be reduced. In comparison to a case of using a culture medium composition including ammonia as a nitrogen source and a pH adjuster, the amount of highly unsaturated fatty acid produced, the content of highly unsaturated fatty acid to the total fatty acid produced, the amount of highly unsaturated fatty acid produced for each fungus body, and the productivity (production speed) of highly unsaturated fatty acid can be improved. |
