<p>A method for extracting a typing profile from a typing sample input by a user is described. The method comprises recording a typing sample when the user types an arbitrary text, wherein said recording comprises recording points of time when the user presses or releases keys. The method further comprises extracting from the typing sample a multitude of time periods, the time periods comprising at least one of holding periods of the various keys that have been pressed and transition periods between two different keys. The method further comprises taking the holding periods of a certain key or the transition periods for a certain pair of keys as realizations of a random variable, and performing a kernel density estimation to determine a probability density function related to the holding periods of said key or to the transition periods for said pair of keys. The preceding step is performed for a multitude of different keys or pairs of keys. The method further comprises representing the user's typing profile as a set of probability density functions related to said multitude of different keys or pairs of keys.</p> |
