The present invention relates an apparatus for correcting an I/Q timing skew capable of exactly correcting the I/Q timing skew using a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter in a communication system using a direct conversion scheme. The apparatus for correcting an I/Q timing skew according to the present invention includes a digital FIR filter coefficient calculator to generate an I shape filter coefficient and a Q shape filter coefficient having a time difference between FIR filter coefficients using a previously measured I/Q timing skewτand an I shape digital filter calculator and a Q shape digital filter calculator to perform digital filtering applying the I shape filter coefficient and the Q shape filter coefficient calculated by the digital FIR filter coefficient calculator for I shape data and Q shape data, respectively. In the above configuration, the digital FIR filter coefficient calculator includes an over sample filter coefficient memory to previously generated and store a digital FIR filter coefficient based on an over sampled sample rate M (integer) times of a fundamental sample rate; a time delay sample calculator to convert a timing skew between the previously measured I/Q components into a sample number based on the over sampled sample rate M (integer) times; and a down sample filter coefficient generator to generate filter coefficients of an I shape path and a Q shape path through a down sampling procedure of a filter coefficient using the sample number of the timing skew of the I/Q components calculated from the time delay sample calculator.
