646,585. Aircraft controls. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. Dec. 6, 1947, No. 32243. [Class 4] [Also in Group XIX] In a multi-winding D.C. energized relay or magnetic amplifier system used for indicating the change in one variable with respect to the mean of several others, the field due to the one variable opposes that of the several others. Four D.C. pick-up devices 21 ... 24 having outputs proportional, e.g. to the torques o powers developed by a four-engined aircraft are connected to four series-connected magnetic amplifiers 31, 41, 51, 61, controlling indicator relays such as 32. Each amplifier has a main winding 33, 44, 55, 66, and three opposing windings such as 34, 35, 36 each having an equal but smaller number of turns. Each amplifier is arranged to operate its relay when a predetermined opposing field is set up, i.e. when the engine associated with its main winding fails. The output from the amplifier may be peaked at the predetermined position when a simple warning, and not continuous indication, is required. Tappings on all the windings and/or variable shunts may be used for adjustment. A bias winding energized from an independent source may be used for checking. Alternatively a multiwinding relay may be used instead of the magnetic amplifier, Fig. 1, not shown. |
