A method for producing a cage 1 of a roller bearing, wherein the cage comprises a plurality of pockets 2 for rolling elements. The method comprises the following steps: a) Defining of basis geometry of the cage; b) Defining at least a part of the geometry of the cage as being unalterable surfaces; c) Calculation of the stress distribution in the cage when applying a defined stress force by means of a mathematical model; d) Identifying volume sections 8 of the cage in which the stress is below a defined threshold; e) Removal of at least a part of the volume sections defined according to above step, taking into account the unalterable surfaces according to step b) and surfaces 5 of the pockets 2 which are unalterable surfaces; f) Definition of the cage geometry with the removed volume sections; g) Manufacturing the cage according to the geometry as defined according to step f). The steps d) to e) may be repeated after step f) in an iterative design process to result in a lightened and stable part. The mathematical model may be an FEA model (finite element analysis) and the production of the cage may be carried out by means of a 3D printing process. |
